This pedal probably isn't for everyone, but if you are into experimental guitar tones and blending clean into distorted tones, this may be something interesting to add to your pedal board. The pedal is a compact size that some may not appreciate if they are used to a full sized volume pedal, but this doesn't necessarily replace a volume pedal it could, depending where you set the boost and gain, but if you are looking for volume only, you might want to check out one of the MVP or VP pedals. If not, an adapter is cheap and easy to find since many pedals use the same 9v DC power supply.
It doesn't use a battery, but if you are buying this pedal, you probably have other pedals and a multi 9v power adapter. One problem with an online review is I can't explain how it sounds, and with anything music related, you will need to listen to it to hear if it's for you, but as far as the build quality and mechanics go, this pedal is well built and has a very flashy shiny gold finish. The on/off switch is by far the most common way to add gain/distortion to your guitar tone, but it's been great to be able to fade it in, especially when using a very high gain on the drive setting. The pedal has adjustments for gain, boost, and tone, which is absolutely necessary depending on the type of sound you are looking for. This Ernie Ball 6183 Expression Series Overdrive pedal is a unique pedal in that it provides overdrive distortion in a volume pedal format.
